Knitting Hands

Laura walked into the living room this morning and saw Grandma and me knitting, and said, "I’m going to knit, too!" and so we had an unexpected moment of three generations.  Luckily, the camera was nearby, and so for Shelagh, here are three pairs of knitting hands, Grandma’s (with Julia cuddling), mine, and Laura’s.  We’re all three "throwers," not surprisingly, but Laura is actually left-handed.

    I have knit –
though I do not with any regularity…
and from what I can tell, I knit backwards –
does this mean I am a thrower?
    (I am left handed…)

How divine! Three generations, with Julia cuddling, absorbing, learning…what a special post. Thank you for playing along!

Prof, Grandma is making a cardigan, I think. I’m working on my Pi Shawl, and Laura has her first project, which if she keeps at it will be a scarf. It’s rather narrow — so that the rows go fairly quickly — and she has a very large ball of yarn, so I suggested fringe on the ends when she finishes. “Fringe!” she said delightedly, “well, Mommy, we’ll cross that bridge when we come to it!”

I’m teaching my granddaughter to knit and need some advice. I’m starting her with size 10 needles but the stash yarn I gave her isn’t right. What is your daughter knitting with? It looks smooth and not too thick. If I had a blog I would hope to post my own pictures of our hands working together. Thanks for sharing yours!

Donna, I don’t remember what Laura’s yarn is, I’m afraid. She picked it out at Michael’s — I pointed out a few fairly nice, medium-weight acrylics, and she chose the color. It’s either Lion Brand (Babysoft, possibly) or Paton’s, is my guess.
